On Friday 20th June Briony, the Wellholme Park Family Hub and Nursery cook attended the Calderdale Summer Food Gathering.

There was a range of different professionals and local charities there, including representation from the following:

  • Family Hubs
  • Halifax Opportunities Trust
  • First step nutrition/ Locala’s health visiting team
  • Pennine Crop Share
  • Back to our roots

This was a fantastic networking opportunity for individuals across Calderdale to come together to celebrate Calderdale’s diverse food culture, showcasing local food, recipes, and information from across the borough.

There were taster sessions and free samples aplenty to try out.

There was a lot of information on tips about “growing your own.” A planting station was available for individuals to plant seeds and them take them away.

There was lots of interesting and informative information about weaning supports, identifying hidden sugars in processed foods, recipe books, cooking demonstrations, and tasting opportunities.

There were stalls with locally made products for sale, including homemade jams, chutneys, honey, cheeses, cooking sauce, cakes, brownies, fruit and veg – to name but a few!

It was a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, share ideas, taste, and see what Calderdale has to offer!
