Whether you are breastfeeding, bottle feeding (formula or expressed milk) or doing a mixture of both, we are here to answer any questions you have about feeding and weaning your baby. You can talk to us about any worries or concerns you may have. We can also offer advice and support to help you to continue to breastfeed if you are going back to work.
You can get infant feeding support in Calderdale from midwives, health visitors, lactation consultants, breastfeeding peer supporters and the teams in your Family Hubs. Calderdale has the Welcome to Breastfeed Calderdale Scheme. Venues across the borough have committed to offering a welcoming space in their venue for all breastfeeding mums, babies and their families.

Learn MoreAt each Health Visitor contact you will be offered a referral to the Calderdale Breastfeeding Peer Support Service. The Breastfeeding Peer Supporters are mothers who have personal experience of breastfeeding their baby and who have been trained as a volunteer to support other mums.

Learn MoreEvery Tuesday at Halifax Central library between 10.00am-1.45pm there is a breastfeeding clinic run by the hospital infant feeding team, including at least one lactation consultant, maternity support worker and peer supporter.
The clinic is by appointment only and these can be booked via your community midwife or a direct referral through from the infant feeding team. Speak to your midwife if you have any concerns.
The appointments are 45 minutes long and are to address ongoing breastfeeding issues requiring more specialist input following and alongside support from your community midwife.
Learn MoreA midwife-led frenulotomy (Tongue-Tie) clinic is run weekly at Calderdale Royal Hospital by a specially trained infant feeding advisor, along with a maternity support worker and peer supporter, to support babies whose feeding is being affected by a tongue tie.
The clinic can see babies under 12 weeks or 6kg (whichever comes first). To attend the clinic, you need a referral from an infant feeding advisor in Maternity or from the Infant Feeding Lead in Health Visiting. Please speak to your midwife or health visitor if you have any concerns about how your baby is feeding.
